Drywise FAQ's

A large majority of 3D printing plastics absorb moisture from the surrounding air which can significantly impact the quality of your 3D prints. These plastics are known as hygroscopic.

As the filament is extruded, moisture absorbed in the plastic will rapidly expand, boil and rupture, forming bubbles in the extruded plastic. These bubbles can have a significant impact on the surface quality, layer adhesion and mechanical performance of your 3D printed parts. To avoid this, we recommend using Drywise in-line with your printer.

The Drywise pre-treats the filament to the optimal printing conditions, just before it enters your printer.

If you cannot find your material among the material profiles we have, then we have probably not tested that material yet. The way this process works is that we get filaments in-house and hydrate them in a chamber at a constant 75% RH. Then we start testing and creating the profile only after they stop absorbing more water. In this manner, we know that the profile can dry even a filament in a very bad (realistic) hydration state. Drywise is compatible with a number of materials including Nylons and filled Nylons. Certain materials and all filled materials require the use of the Drywise Pre-heater add-on as will be indicated by the drywise unit UI. The list of tested and approved materials is always growing, for an updated list kindly check our website on our Materials page.

For the best filament drying performance, the integrity of the closed loop is critical. Thus, ensuring that the o-rings are in good shape is essential. The machine will sense if there is an issue with the o-rings or any other component in the seal of the system. It will highlight this to you via an on-screen message. Please make sure to follow through. Extra O-Rings can be purchased from our Accessories page.

Desiccants other than the ones provided are not recommended or supported by Drywise.

If the desiccant needs regeneration the system will inform you. Refer to the “User Operations” section in the manual for the right steps to regenerate the desiccant. If you won’t be operating the device for a long period of time remove the desiccant container from the device. The desiccant container has valved connectors which, once engaged (by removing from the mating connector) should be able to protect the desiccant from absorbing Humidity.

Operating the device with saturated or unsupported desiccant will not give satisfactory results.

It is not recommended to use the Drywise in a horizontal position. This is due to the cooling airflow required to prevent overheating.

Yes. If you do not wish to stay removing the PreHeater add-on every time you’re not using a filled material, you can leave it attached. This will have no effect on the performance of the Drywise. The PreHeater will simply not be turned on when drying materials that do not require it.

When carrying out any of these cleaning procedures, always switch off and unplug the machine from the mains supply.

Cleaning the fans - use a brush to gently clean the fans from the outside of the device if these accumulate dust. Compressed air can also be used to do this.

Outer surface - use a damp cloth to clean the outer surfaces of the device.

No. The Drywise arrives pre-assembled and ready to go. There are only a couple of very simple steps to follow to set it up before it’s ready to dry.

No. The Drywise comes readily calibrated and set with various profiles for different materials. For a list of compatible materials, visit our Materials page.

To get access to the Firmware update files, please send us an email on support@drywise.co

Please state your Device/s Serial Number in the email, and we will send you the files for the firmware, as well as the LCD screen. We will also send you the procedures that will assist you in the updates.

Currently, the only accessory we offer for the Drywise is the PreHeater add-on, for drying filled Nylons and other specific materials. For a full list of accessories, visit our Accessories page.

Drying two filaments at a time is possible with two Drywise devices, one used for each filament and placed close to the respective extruders.

Each profile has been specifically created for the material that it lists. Using a profile with a different material is not suggested. This can lead to suboptimal results or might damage the filament and the device (voiding warranty). If there is no profile for the filament that you would like to dry, kindly get in touch with our team.

Drywise currently accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. We also accept payment via PayPal.

We offer international shipping and accept all credit cards.

First orders are starting to be shipped in Q1 2023 for US shipments (2.85 and 1.75 mm models).

For EU orders (2.85 and 1.75 mm models), these will start being shipped in Q2 2023.

When products are in stock, there is a 3 week lead time. If products are not in stock, there is an 8 week lead time.
